It's hard to work with sprites on a site that forbids them, huh? Start from the beginning, then edit and custom. Wont take long to build up some confidence. Do what i do; take a sprite and copy it. Just go beside it and try to make ur own version. It takes a long time but at least ur not stealing as the people below me say. Eventually u can change it to the basic shape of sonic ect and edit details or change the character completely. Try working with different animals, make sprites from scratch but be careful wat u submit. If ur worried about getting banned ect put them in ur shareables and no matter wat u do give full credit due to the owners of the original sprite.
Just remember, spriting is for fun and dont let these morons walk all over you. Give it a go and keep in touch if they bother u again

The reason no one on deviant art does that is because no one criticizes anyone over there, on sheezy I've noticed some people actually care about art... and point out when you're doing a shoddy half-assed job.
